Drone crop spraying for Luzon and Visayas farms

Why farmers are trying drones

Spraying by knapsack takes hours per hectare and exposes the sprayer to chemicals. Drones fly a mapped route above the crop and use much less water.

In a rice trial in Bogor, Indonesia, researchers from IPB University recorded about 0.6 hours per hectare by drone against about 5.3 hours by knapsack, using 20 litres of spray per hectare instead of 200 (Andryan et al., 2025). Results here will depend on the crop and the field.

The Philippine rules are evolving

CAAP, the Civil Aeronautics Board and the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority all have a say in drone spraying, and FPA announced in March 2026 that it plans a new circular with CAAP. We keep our regulation page linked to the official sources.

Common questions

How much is drone spraying per hectare?

It depends on the crop, area and access. We give a written quote.

Is drone spraying legal in the Philippines?

Yes, within CAAP, CAB and FPA rules. Commercial drones must be registered with CAAP, and FPA MC 2024-25 covers pesticide application by RPAS.

Which pesticides can be sprayed by drone?

FPA registered products, used according to the label and FPA’s RPAS rules.

Can drones spray sugarcane?

Yes, especially once the cane is too tall for tractors.
